Musician | Producer | Engineer
Originally from Winston-Salem, NC Bradford Carrick is a renowned musician, producer and engineer (both studio, and live) and all around fun guy. Known for his ability to transform any given sound into a beautiful masterpiece, Bradford enjoys the beauty of working with artists, musicians and the like. After living in Nashville, TN for a few years, producing records at Blackbird Studio - owned by John Mcbride - and working and studying under distinguished producer/engineers such as Ryan Hewitt, Dave Thoener, Dave Kalmusky, Kevin Becka, Mark Rubel, Jeremy Cottrell, Brandon Bell, Ross Hogarth, Steve Marcantonio, Bradford was granted the opportunity to work at ShangriLA Studio in Malibu, CA - owned by Rick Rubin. After spending a year in California, Brad wanted to get back to his roots of playing music and was hired by Chris Lane as his Bassist/MD/Ableton Specialist and moved back to Nashville, TN.
As a producer, artists and musicians often define Bradford approach as "non-judgmental, and completely liberating." Not afraid to ask the artist or musician to step out of the box, Bradford is always aware what each person is capable of. Being a multi-instrumentalist, Bradford is able to portray what he is hearing accurately to the particular musician without that person trying to infer what Brad is saying.
"I really think the art of producing is being able to dig deep into someone, carefully of course, and letting their inner being blossom. To me, it's not about perfection - it's about art. Perfection is important once the thought is conceived but art is an inner almost sub-concious thing; we don't always allow ourselves to be artists because we're afraid of judgment from others. I'm here to remove judgment and remind the artist/musician that judgment is of no concern, ever."
Guitar/Bass: At age seven, Brad was given his first guitar by his parents. Brads dad, Craig, would play WWF wresters themes on his Strat and immediately had Brad intrigued. Soon thereafter Brad started learning songs on his own, with guidance of his dad, and began developing his own chops. Along that same time, Brad picked up the bass guitar as well and began playing along with his dad while they played songs from Green Day's "Dookie" album. Brads style can best be described as a combination of Blues, Jazz, Melodic, and country
Drums: At age 12 Brad and his middle school pals started a band, and the drummer would leave his set at Brad's house for rehearsals. Brad began to mimic the drummers he heard and the drummers in his dads band. By age 16 Brad was fully on his way to becoming a solid drummer, and received his first Pearl drum set. Brad's style can best be described as a pocket player with insane tempo, and the ability to step out and really explore the set.
Mandolin: At age 20 Brad bought his first mandolin. Chris Thile (Nickel Creek, Punch Brothers) inspired him to explore that side of music. Brad's style is very traditional with the mandolin. He enjoys the challenge it presents saying "it's like I have to think upside down from the guitar!"
Brad's engineering career began at a very early age - 11. Brad's dad played guitar in a local band, but also provided the sound system. His dad put him behind the console saying "if I play a solo, turn this fader up. If you can't hear the vocals, turn this fader up." By age 15 his dad's business was taking off, and Brad assisted his dad at front of house - learning and watching, while also building his own techniques. At age 20 Brad was promoted to FOH engineer and really honed his listening/frequency recognition skills. Also during that time, he bought his first MAC Pro and Pro Tools where he began recording bands/Artists in his parent's basement. Finally in 2015 Brad attended The Blackbird Academy at Blackbird Studio in Nashville, TN where he spent numerous hours behind the worlds greatest consoles: Neve 8078, API Legacy, SSL 9k. Brad Graduated top of his class with the Platinum Award and quickly began his producing career thereafter.
